Because hunger doesn’t take the weekend off

District 69 BackPack Program

Why we Do it

Every day, children in our communities are going hungry. While schools in our district have some breakfast, lunch and snack programs that are actively addressing this crisis, the weekend remains a difficult time for many families.

We provide a backpack of food on Thursday afternoon that is full of meals and snacks for the weekend, ensuring every child returns to school on Monday morning fed and ready to learn.

District 69 BackPack Program

How it Works

Children at risk of weekend hunger receive a bag of food that is child-friendly, nutritious, non-perishable and easy to eat.

Partnering with local schools, our 100% volunteer-based team distributes backpacks every Thursday so that children have meals for the weekend. Each backpack provides enough food that the children and family can easily assemble into six healthy meals. This helps ensure that children will have food over the weekend and return to school on Monday ready to learn.
